This website is part of a project exploring the early modern North Indian medicine manuscripts in the Wellcome Collection. The purpose of the site is to both provide an entry point for non-specialists and to make rare manuscript materials available to audiences worldwide in the form of complete manuscript transcriptions.
The database features TEI-encoded transcripts of a variety of medicine manuscripts, spanning everything from formal treatises in verse to brief recipes. The source files for the website and database, including the manuscript transcriptions in TEI format, are available in the project's Github repository.
The project has at every step been guided by Peter Friedlander's excellent catalogue of the Wellcome Collection's Hindi manuscripts, available for online reading and downloading here.
